Background

15 Years of research has brought Lt-AD from a concept in the laboratories of NUIG to a full scale system deployment capable of treating 500m ³/day of low strength wastewater

NVP Energy was founded in 2013 after 15 years’ academic research at the National University of Ireland (NUIG), during which time the technology’s feasibility on various waste streams including municipal, dairy, brewing, malting, distilling and meat processing was validated. Lt-AD research and development funding worth over €10M has been invested to date with over 40 research articles in peer reviewed journals published and the Lt-AD has also been independently validated by other universities including Harvard University and Imperial College London. The high caliber of the technology was recently recognised under the 2015 European Commission Horizon 2020 SME instrument, with NVPE being only one of 45 EU companies who successfully secured funding out of 1,090 applications.

The technology has been proven at pilot scale, with over 2 years of successful on-site trials at several dairy sites which have displayed excellent wastewater treatment efficiencies that corroborate the lab-research and so the business is now moving into full-scale deployment. Following on from the successful completion of the Horizon 2020 Phase one in 2014, NVP Energy then successfully secured Horizon 2020 Phase 2 funding to develop a full scale solution for the Dairy market with Arrabawn Dairies in Kilconnell, Co. Galway in the west of Ireland.
